Inspired by the bold graphics and bright colors of men’s underwear coupled with the challenge of finding flattering “boy short” styles for female bodies, Abby and her ex-business partner were spurred to start Play Out underwear in 2011. After spending 3 years in development and education, they launched their first line of genderqueer underwear in 2014. Finding huge success and international recognition after showing at Lingerie Fashion Week (SS 2015), Abby joined together with FlatTopper Pride in 2015 to photograph women and gender-nonconforming individuals who underwent double-mastectomies without reconstruction due to breast cancer treatments. Covered by People.com, The Huffington Post, The Daily Mail, this campaign was one of the first to feature breast cancer survivors without reconstruction and to share their stories. Abby’s entrepreneurial spirit and unique personal style give her an outsider’s advantage in the world of fashion. Searching for a new business partner in 2017, Abby was overjoyed when her dear friend (a long time stylist, creative director and producer) Elizabeth Leifer expressed interest in joining the Play Out team. Now with an expanded product offering and joint vision, Abby and Liz celebrate Play Out’s relaunch in 2018.
