Abby Sugar started Play Out Apparel because she saw a need in the marketplace - she and her friends could not find gender-affirming underwear options that offered style, fit and comfort. Men's underwear offered exciting graphics and bold colors, but the cut and style didn't work. Women's underwear offered different cuts but was always pastel colored, lace or boring fabrics. Why does underwear need to be gendered? All colors in multiple styles should be available no matter how you identify or what you want to wear. With no fashion background, Abby taught herself the industry, business and sourcing. Abby’s entrepreneurial spirit and unique personal style give her an outsider’s advantage in the world of fashion. Searching for a co-owner in 2017, Abby was overjoyed when her dear friend (a long time stylist, creative director and producer) Elizabeth Leifer expressed interest in joining the Play Out team. With 20 years of industry experience, as a manager and director at such brands as Net-a-Porter and Intermix, Liz and Abby are incredibly aligned on style, vision and values. Now with an expanded product offering and joint vision, Abby and Liz celebrate Play Out's expansion into a lifestyle brand with new athleisure offerings in 2020.
Please note – our sizes are true to size. The medium will be a true medium and not a smallish-medium, like some companies. The sizes are also true to most average underwear garments, so if you normally buy a large in underwear that is the size you should buy from Play Out underwear.
Our Boxer Brief, Bikini and Thong underwear feature a flat-fronted cut. It does not provide compression or hold.
Our Pouch Underwear, the Trunk, Pouch Bikini and Pouch Thong, feature a pouch-style front with extra fabric space for equipment and no opening. Please refer to the "More Info" tab on each product to see additional fit notes depending on underwear style.
